What would explain being rushed to USC Medical Center ER?

When It is not the closest medical center around by far.

Need help estimating my friends condition, can't get any information from the Medical center itself. What would explain being rushed to USC Medical Center ER?
Virtually no way to answer. But the general reasons for diversion to non-closest facility are:

1. closed hospital on diversion status (closed to ambulance traffic)

2. meeting trauma criteria requiring transport to a level one trauma center

3. requiring neurosurgery (not all hospitals have a neurosurgeon on call)

4. discretion of the paramedic

5. patient's request or his doctor's request if needs specialized care (such as a heart transplant)--this reason is rare.

Best wishes to you %26amp; your friend. What would explain being rushed to USC Medical Center ER?
