How do you report a medical center that has horrible service?

My father has diabetes and his doctor will not give him a referral to a specialist. They just doubled his insulin. My father has also had back problems that has progressed to his hips and knee without any treament from this same doctor. The staff keeps screwing up paperwork for him to get an MRI. Please help me!How do you report a medical center that has horrible service?
It sounds like you live in a small town. How close is the nearest city or town? If you don't live to far, you could see a doctor in your network in that town. Since this sounds like an HMO (Health Maintance Organization) you will need to call the insurance company and change your primary care physican (known as the PCP) before you can receive care from the new doctor.

You can also file a complaint with your insurance comany. Tell them about the errors with the MRI paperwork and other issues. Let them know that your father has diabetes and is in pain because of back problems and that he needs care asap.

If you are stuck with the medical center in town, it might not be a bad idea to see another one of the doctors. It is a group practice, but the doctors only share expenses and costs, and revenue resulting from running the practice.

HMO's can be a pain, but they do keep a patient's out of pocket expenses lower. I wish you luck, and I highly reccomend getting in touch with your insurance company.
Hospitals are governed and inspected by several agencies--state and federal (JACHO). But that could take time and not particularly benefit you and would not involve the MD at all. Best bet is to change doctors--a pain I know, but well worth it. Can you see a diabetes specialist (an endocrinologist) and a neurologist/neurosurgeon for his back without a referral? You can make those appointments yourself if you don't need a referral. Another option is to go to a good clinic (or even the ER) in the area and be evaluated and get a referral to a specialist from there. I am unclear why the MRI snafu--perhaps you (or your dad) should get a copy of the order for the MRI and take it to the MRI center %26amp; book an appointment right then. Sometimes you really have to take your care firmly into your own hands. How do you report a medical center that has horrible service?
